Shearling and roses embrace in Magda Butrym’s high-on-desire line
Exaggerated tailoring and oversized cocooning are at the core of Magda Butrym’s newest collection. Silhouettes, colours and prints are influenced by Japanese culture, “twisted with a Slavic touch that reminds us of the old eastern way of dressing,” says the Polish designer, who has dedicated a capsule to 'Slavic Après-Ski'. The line flirts with romance once more - high hems, dusty pink hues, red roses and ruching - but it’s the wraparound warmth of chocolate brown and black leather, faux fur and shearling that leans into the January mood, inspired by the crisp mountain air of Zakopone in Magda’s native Poland.
The line up is as much suited to the alpine as it is to the wintry city streets, with maxi-length coats, shearling boots, and faux fur hats and scarves providing standout additions to any wardrobe. Silhouettes are sharp and strong, from the broad shoulders of a blazer to body-hugging dresses, in “an ode and celebration of every woman who wants to feel notable, and first and foremost herself,” says Magda of the confident yet poetic designs.
No more so than in “the Magda dress” of the season - a 3D sculpted flower style seen wrapped around model Elsa Hosk amongst others. “One can't escape the feeling of this oversized silk rose being the proud celebration of powerful femininity,” she adds.
