Loewe: Autumn With The Arts
Jonathan Anderson's final collection speaks to an artisanal reign
An ode to the 11-year tenure of Jonathan Anderson at Loewe, the brand’s AW25 collection gives nods to some of the designer’s most defining moments, presented as a “scrapbook of ideas” through time. As ever, Anderson played with scale and volume, seen in statuesque mini dresses hemmed with wire and oversized knits bearing bold silhouettes. “Leather is spliced, draped, and elongated, jersey dresses are sculpted into round forms, while familiar wardrobe staples are fused together in blunt hybrids, turning the known into something unsettling,” read the show notes.
The enduring focus on artisanal craft throughout Anderson's time at Loewe is once again present, this autumn in a collaboration with the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation, realised in the bold colour blocks of Josef Albers’s Homage to the Square series translated onto coats, pleated skirts and dresses, and the iconic Puzzle Bag, the first bag Anderson designed for the house : current collectibles indeed. And, rather than down the runway, the collection was shown in an exhibition of sorts, conversing with a series of artworks in the palatial surroundings of Hôtel de Maisons in Paris. Curated by Anderson, the exhibition included the works of Anthea Hamilton, Zizipho Poswa and Japanese sculptor Yoshihiro Suda amongst others.
