The Hot Ticket: Salone del Mobile
From 16-21 April, Milan’s design troves open their doors to showcase the new and the now. Not to be missed is Gucci’s ‘Design Ancora,’ Prada Frames Symposium, and Miu Miu's literary club, focusing on the work of Sibilla Aleramo and Alba De Céspedes, alongside conversations and live performances.
Antonin Hautefort of Pendhapa Architect's opens his private apartment to unveil a special collaboration with The Invisible Collection and Métaphores fabrics. Also on our radar is a series of unreleased works by the late Italian design icon Gaetano Pesce on show at Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Nilufar's ‘Time Traveler’ exhibition curated by Nina Yashar, and David Lynch's dreamlike 'The Thinking Room' installation.
New to Milan is Villa Clea, a minimalist space dedicated to artists in residence - currently the paintings and ceramics of New York-based painter and art director Andrea Smith, the portraits and videoclips of Breton choreographer and photographer Sulian Rios, the canvases of Parisian performative painter Jan Melka, and the paintings and sculptures of Chinese painter Xiao Zhiyu.
The Pop-Up: We Are Ona
This travelling dining ‘club’ founded by Noma-trained Luca Pronzato pops up amid fashion and design weeks around the world, collaborating with creative partners as they go. From 15 to 21 April, the restaurateur will appear at Carla Sozzani’s new Foundation Sozzani in Milan, where chef Megan Moore will be at the helm and diners will eat amongst a showcase of art by Mark Borthwick.
The Hotel: Portrait Milano
Housed in Europe’s oldest seminary, in Milan’s Corso Venezia, architect Michele Bönan collaborated with the Ferragamo family to develop a hotel bridging hospitality, culture, shopping and wellbeing that speaks to the Milanese lifestyle. Check in and explore the newly-unveiled Longevity Spa, a 700 square metre oasis.
The Trattoria: Da Giacomo
Dating back to 1958, this landmark restaurant stands the test of time for authentic Tuscan cuisine - ‘Alici Fritte’ and Cacio e Pepe with red prawn crudo are favourites. Its interiors are equally standout, designed by architect Renzo Mongiardino with boiseries, stuccoes, arches and a patterned grit floor. On a warm day, book a table outdoors overlooking the Via Sottocorno bustle.
Forever Favourite: 10 Corso Como
Considered the original ‘concept store,’ this shopping and dining destination was dreamed up by former fashion editor Carla Sozzani and remains the place to go to discover exclusive collections across fashion, art and design.
The Morning Pick-Me-Up: Oslo Cafe
