Khaite: Visual Wizardry

“What if David Lynch remade a Merchant Ivory movie?” Asked Khaite’s Catherine Holstein in her show notes - the answer to which she imagined in a collection that redefines the brand’s signature looks through a heightened sense of tactility. Raw and refined materials - leather, tweed, silk - are contrasted in a typically neutral palette punctuated with the autumnal hues of leopard, chocolate and toffee browns.
“Stories have tangents; they open up and become different things. You can still have a structure, but you should leave room to dream,” quotes David Lynch whose films inspired not only Holstein’s collection but the setting of the show that drew parallels to The Wizard of Oz, Lynch’s great love. Assembled at New York’s Park Avenue Armory, the runway formed a seemingly suspended gold ring - a marvel by the architect Griffin Frazen that set the scene for Holstein’s standout collection.
