Dior Brings The Drama
Maria Grazia Chiuri’s spring-summer collection references female rebels
Fashion for every type of woman is a message that has rung loud and clear since the start of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s reign at Dior, and this collection rings no different. Inspired by female rebels, from Ingrid Bergman as Joan of Arc to Maria Callas as Medea and Simone Signoret appearing in a film adaptation of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, the largely-monochrome collection (save for the dark florals and smoky spiderweb prints) features sheer lace, deconstructed chiffon tops and dresses, and shirts pulled off the shoulder. Accessories are punchy, from pearl-studded Lady Dior bags and stilettos strapped up to the knee to fringed ballet flats and choker necklaces. The looks are versatile, with shapes and silhouettes for every body, and for wherever summer has in store, from lace and crochet beach cover-ups to summer-savvy suiting by way of full-bodied pleated skirts and tailored shirts.
