Linger in La Collection

Design, sculpture and conscious living are the dynamos behind an Antwerp-based label that fuses Belgian rigour with Parisian flair

Cover your eyes, snap your fingers, you’re in Paris for forty-eight hours. What brand would you choose to carry you from Cafe Charlot to a late night at Castel? Antwerp-based Maison La Collection takes a stance with “understated, historic luxury and classic tailoring,” that might win the pitch.

Founded by Florence Cools (previously of multi brand store Damoy) and husband, Artur Tadevosian in 2017, the duo set out to bring a sense of subtle drama to his and hers day to night pieces crafted in made-to-order natural fabrics. “We want to present what authentic, slow fashion is, and to make the world fall in love with it,” says the duo who met among friends and kindled a shared passion for sculpture from Rodin (Cools’ mother is a specialist in the field) to Giacometti and Isamu Noguchi.

Maison La Collection has earnt its smarts fine tuning classics like blazer and shirt dresses; collarless jackets and cardigan coats (find a gorgeous fluffy astrakhan wool for Spring). “A blazer dress is the most versatile piece - the piece I feel the most empowered by. Beauty is in the unlimited opportunities - it is a dress, blazer and a light coat all in one,” enthuses Cools of its winning Roxanne style.

And the brand has a neat way with accessories too matching striking outerwear with berets and balaclavas all in muted tones that evoke the palette and indeed mien of artist Georgia O’Keefe. These ageless designs are attracting keen fans from Tylynn Nguyen, to Rosie Huntingdon Whiteley, to Dame Judi Dench. After all, there’s always time for quiet elegance in life.
