How does someone spritzed in Gypsy Water on a Sunday, or, say, Mixed Emotions on a Monday imagine themselves in the mirror? Guided by the olfactory journey of Byredo scents, trailblazing creative Lucia Pica joins the tribe of beauty aficionados devising product after taking up the helm as Creative Image and Makeup Partner at the Swedish perfumery founded by Ben Gorham.
“Byredo perfume is an invisible medium of emotion through scent. I want the makeup to be a visible medium of emotions,” says Italian born, Paris dwelling Pica introducing her first collection entitled First Emotions. The former Creative Makeup and Colour Designer of CHANEL acclaimed for her expertise in subtle portraiture allows intuition to lead the way. Eschewing ‘corporate colour palettes’ that dampen down the enjoyment, Pica has built the line around multi use pigments for eyes and cheeks. From a dewy pink colour-stick Flower Play to dramatic black, Destroyer the hues and textures capture the drama and giddiness of the body’s first flush of desire. Lipsticks such as the rich red of Transported or the wittily named nude hue On The Fence have a gorgeous velvety finish achieved through a blend of waxes, silica and bamboo stem.
Some of our favourites include the nuanced Mixed Emotions mascara that undercuts black with a hint of burgundy and the Subversive eye palette of metallic and matte hues for after-dark. “The being in love state is enigmatic and it’s usually outside of the visual and outside language. This collection is a reflection of how the body feels things before they are comprehended in the brain,” says Pica of her muse.
